Phil's Note:
Well I guess you could call this culture week for blogger Phil. He attended
his second culture club event tonight, The Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra,
featuring students from the proteges Eastman School of Music. On Monday,
he attended The Wind Ensemble, again featuring students from the
Eastman School of Music. Tomorrow night they feature Marriage of
Figuro / an opera in Italian / at the next door Eastman Theater,
so I could get the triple crown in my culture club, if I so
desired. HA HA. I really enjoyed Monday night performance as
they had more brass instruments and more lively tunes overall,
which tends to keep me from falling asleep ( a common malady
for me when I attend these events). Also after each number
at Mondays concert, they switched chairs / and eliminated
some seats / kind like musical chairs. In Monday nights concert
they had an intermission and I love intermission as it gives you
a chance to stretch you legs and get a drink of water. Tonight's
concert had no intermission, and each individual piece of music
had several parts/ which stretched out the length of each
number. One interesting thing occurred between one of the songs.
They paused and the stage crew wheeled out a huge Harp into the
auditorium seating level floor and wheeled it close to stage.
The stage hands hands then hand lifted the huge harp onto to the
stage from floor. After that number the stage hands returned and
reversed them self, hand lifting the huge harp from stage back down
to floor level and then whisked it out the door. I would sure hate
to be a stage hand at that concert. Tonight concert also was more
classical but the last number was best. It was more modern and jazzy
and featured the trombone and trumpet (trombone is my instrument)
Well do think I should make it three in row and get my star culture
award. Let me know!!
