Phil's Notes:
I am currently reading a book entitled The Blessings of a Skinned Knee by Wendy Mogel Ph D ( who is clinical psychologist, and parent educator ). The book is an advice book for raising children ( using her background in Judaism). On Page 125 she says " Jewish Tradition encourages adults to say 100 blessings of gratitude each day. To fill a blessing quota this huge, you have to vigilant about looking for things to be thankful for. Ritually observant Jews don't waste any time. The moment after awakening, they begin with the morning blessings: "Thank you, God, for returning my soul to me" The next blessing is said after going to the bathroom because wondrously " the tubes and passages that should be open and those that should be closed are closed".They say another prayer before eating breakfast, to thank God for the food. Throughout the day they continue to give thanks at every possible opportunity. They even say a blessing when bad things happen. "Thank you God, the true judge, for my spiritual elevation"
